Trophy CATS

Trophy CATS

Concept

Trophy Gold is a roleplaying game about a group of desperate treasure-hunters entering the haunted and forgotten places of the world. It tells the story of their obsessive drive to seek ever greater riches in a desperate bid to stay alive. Trophy Gold is about haggard adventurers who stay just ahead of the debtor's noose by pushing their luck in the most dangerous places of the world.

Trophy Dark is a roleplaying game about a group of doomed treasure-hunters entering the same haunted and forgotten places. It tells the story of their physical and mental descent as they move deeper and deeper, ultimately losing themselves to the monstrosities within. Trophy Dark is not about brave and daring adventurers that slay dragons and drag bags of gold back to town. Trophy Dark is a horror story of entitled pillagers meeting tragic ends.

Aim

We will be playing weekly from October through December.

The aim of the players will be to create a group of flawed and desperate treasure hunters that will explore the dangerous places of the world. You will play to win, using your wits and fighting dirty. But, when your luck eventually runs out, you will play to lose and embrace that finality, giving your character the most memorable ending possible. No previous experience is necessary and rules will be taught during play. Attendance at every session is not required, and there will be breaks for holidays.

The aim of the characters will be to pursue their drives obsessively, seeking riches in an attempt to not only survive, but to triumph over that singular goal that seems so impossible.

Tone

Trophy is dark and often horrific, but can also contain moments of humor, camaraderie, and heroism. Death is very likely, sometimes unavoidable, and often unfair. Characters are, at best, desperate, and sometimes doomed. The world is bleak and hard.

Touchstones include: The Wicker Man, Midsommar, A Field in England, The Blacktongue Thief, Between Two Fires, Annihilation, Darkest Dungeon and Dark Souls.

Subject Matter

Trophy can contain a lot of dark and horrific subject matter, depending on the incursion. These can include, but are not limited to: body horror, insects, cannibalism, human sacrifice, religion, graphic violence, and more.

We will use a number of safety tools to help manage these potentially difficult topics including: the X-card, Lines & Veils, and the Open Door Policy. Although many of these topics are part of what this game is designed to explore, we can choose to omit them during our game. No game is more important than its players. That said, it's possible this isn't a game you'd enjoy playing and that's okay!
